Extra requirements can depend on the exact pickup location, whether the pet originated in or traveled through an active infested/surveillance zone, and the destination state.
Current U.S. states with active NWS infested zones: Texas and New Mexico. New Mexico established a new Grant County zone after a second case was confirmed September 17, 2026. A pet can still face extra entry requirements in destination states that use confirmed-detection, surveillance-zone, or broader high-risk-origin criteria.
Before dispatch: check the pickup address on the current zone map, then read the destination-state action box below.

More about interstate documents and vaccination rules
What vaccinations are required before transporting a pet?
Vaccination requirements depend on the destination, species, age, and type of trip. For domestic U.S. moves, the receiving state sets the requirements. For travel into Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency publishes species- and age-specific entry rules, with rabies documentation being a key requirement for many dogs and cats. We review the route with you, but your veterinarian should confirm that your pet meets the current requirements.

Who is responsible for obtaining my pet's travel documents?
The pet owner arranges any required health certificate with their own vet — Snout Route doesn't have a vet on staff. Our handlers check that required paperwork is in order before pickup, and can file the CDC Dog Import Form on your behalf as the shipper. Contact us for details.
How recent must my pet's health certificate be?
There is no single universal validity period for every pet trip. The required timing depends on the destination and the specific document. U.S. interstate requirements are set by the receiving state or territory, while cross-border trips follow the current Canadian and U.S. import rules. Because these requirements can change, have your veterinarian issue any required certificate within the timeframe specified for your exact route.
