Process
From booking to doorstep, step by step.
No cargo holds and no relay handoffs. Just a clear route from pickup to delivery, with photo updates along the way. See what is included with our door-to-door ground pet transport service.
Book your route
Tell us pickup, destination, and your pet's needs — size, breed, temperament, and any medication. We review the route and reply with a written quote within one business day.
Documents & prep
Send over any required pet health certificate or travel documents. We review the trip requirements with you before pickup; veterinary certificates are arranged by the pet owner with their veterinarian.
Pickup & transit
A dedicated handler collects your pet at your door and remains responsible for them for the trip, with scheduled care breaks and overnight stops as needed. Dogs can also be booked through our dog transport service, with a separate puppy transport page for younger dogs and breeder-to-owner trips.
Doorstep delivery
Receive photo check-ins along the route and meet your pet at the delivery address.
Trip updates
You'll hear from us the whole way.
Every trip is logged by the same handler who has your pet, with updates shared directly at stops and milestones.
- Updates shared at every stop, not just at pickup and delivery
- Photo check-ins at every stop
- Direct contact with your handler or dispatch for any question
About the process
How long does a cross-country trip take?
Most coast-to-coast ground trips take 3–5 days, depending on the route and stops. Regional trips under 250 miles are usually done in a single day. See cross-country dog transport for dog-specific trip details.
Is someone with my pet the entire time?
Yes. A dedicated handler is responsible for your pet from pickup to delivery, and we do not use relay handoffs between unrelated handlers.
What if my pet needs medication during the trip?
Let us know at booking. Handlers are trained to administer routine medication on schedule and log it with each check-in.

How do I schedule door-to-door transportation for my pet?
Fill out the quote form with your pickup, drop-off, and pet's needs. We reply within one business day with a real quote, then confirm your reservation and pickup window. Get a free quote: Get a Quote.
What information do you need to prepare a pet transport quote?
Your pickup and drop-off cities, preferred pickup date, and your pet's name, type, and size. The more detail you give us about your pet's needs, the more accurate your quote and route plan will be. Get a free quote: Get a Quote.
How long does it take to confirm a pet transport reservation?
We reply within one business day of your quote request. Once your reservation is confirmed, we finalize your route and pickup window. Get a free quote: Get a Quote.
Can I change the pickup or delivery address after booking?
Usually, yes. Contact us as soon as possible if an address changes. A nearby change may have little or no effect, while a significant change in mileage or routing may require an updated quote or schedule. We'll review the change with you before modifying the trip.
Can I change my pet's travel dates after making a reservation?
Yes, when scheduling allows. Contact us as early as possible and we'll work with you to find another available date. Changes close to the scheduled pickup may be subject to the same scheduling considerations as a cancellation because a handler and vehicle have already been reserved for your trip.
How often does Snout Route send pet transport updates?
At every stop along the route, with multiple daily check-ins on Cross-Country trips. Updates come through the same app your handler uses, so nothing is delayed on our end. See the full How it Works page.
Will I receive photos of my pet during the trip?
Yes — a photo update at every stop, so you always know exactly how they're doing. Photo check-ins are standard on every trip, not an upgrade. Get a free quote: Get a Quote.
Will I be notified if the pickup or arrival time changes?
Yes. If traffic, weather, road conditions, a longer-than-expected care stop, or another issue changes the schedule, we'll update you and provide a revised arrival estimate. You can also communicate directly with your handler while your pet is traveling.
Who can I contact while my pet is traveling?
Call or text (833) 612-6399, or email info@snoutroute.net. Handlers are reachable 24/7 mid-trip, even outside our Monday–Saturday, 7am–8pm office hours. Contact us for details.
Who is allowed to receive my pet at the destination?
Your pet can be released to you or another adult you authorize in advance. We'll confirm the receiving person's information before delivery. We never simply leave a pet at an address, outside a residence, or with an unidentified person.
How are pickup and delivery times scheduled?
You give us a preferred pickup date when booking, and we confirm exact pickup and delivery windows once your route is planned. Cross-country trips typically take 3–5 days depending on the route; regional trips under 250 miles are often done the same day. Get a free quote: Get a Quote.
Are pet transport pickup and delivery dates guaranteed?
We reserve and plan around your confirmed travel dates, but exact arrival times can be affected by weather, traffic, road closures, pet-care needs, or other conditions outside our control. We'll provide the best available pickup and delivery windows and keep you updated if anything changes.
Will the driver contact me before arriving?
Yes. Your handler will communicate with the pickup and delivery contacts before arrival so everyone is ready for the handoff. You'll also receive photo check-ins and updates directly from your handler while your pet is in transit.
What happens if no one is available at pickup or delivery?
Contact us immediately if your plans change. We can coordinate with another authorized adult when one has been approved in advance. A pet will never be left unattended at a residence or other location. A missed handoff may require rescheduling and can affect the trip cost or timing.
